To all The Edmonton and District Council of Churches is pleased to announce that the next Service of Prayer for Christian Unity, will take place at Knox Metropolitan United Church, 8307-109 Street, at 7:pm on Sunday January 22, 2012. The organizing committee for this annual city wide service would be delighted if you and or a representative from your church body would be a part of this service.
The Canadian Council of Churches regularly prepares an order of service based on a theme chosen by a specific country sharing their gifts and wisdom, dedicated to world wide Christian Unity. The material for the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity in 2012 was prepared by a working group composed of representatives of the Roman Catholic Church, the Orthodox Church and Old Catholic, and Protestant Churches, active in Poland.
This year the chosen theme is focused on the transformative power of faith in Christ, particularly in relation to our praying for the visible unity of the Church, the Body of Christ; based on St. Paul’s words to the Corinthian Church, which speaks of the temporary nature of our present lives (with all its apparent “victory” and “defeat”) in comparison to what we receive through the victory of Christ through the Paschal mystery. (We will all be changed by the Victory of our Lord Jesus Christ. 1 Cor 15:51-58).
It is our hope that your schedule will permit you or a representative to participate in this service to pray together for that full unity which is Christ’s will. It would be helpful to our committee if you could respond soon to one of the undersigned, perhaps before mid-November.
Please set aside this date so we may look forward to sharing this very special service with you.
Yours in Christ,
Anne Dingwell Rev. Don Mayne
