Who Was St. Macrina?
A Name Rooted in the Life of the Church
St. Macrina the Younger was a fourth-century Christian saint known for her wisdom, prayer, holiness, and deep influence within her family and the wider Church. She was the sister of St. Basil the Great and St. Gregory of Nyssa and is remembered as a woman of faith, learning, spiritual strength, and quiet leadership.
Macrina grew up in a deeply Christian family and helped shape the faith of those around her. After the death of her father, she helped care for her family and became a spiritual guide to her brothers, who later became two of the great teachers of the Church. Her life shows how holiness is often formed through prayer, learning, service, and faithfulness in ordinary responsibilities.
She later embraced a life of prayer, simplicity, and community, becoming an example of Christian dedication and spiritual maturity. In the Eastern Christian tradition, St. Macrina is remembered not only for what she taught, but for the way she lived: with humility, wisdom, courage, and love for God.
The store bears her name as a reminder that Christian learning, prayer, and holy example help form the life of the Church from one generation to the next. Like St. Macrina, the store exists to support faith that is lived, taught, prayed, and passed on.
