Holy Spirit Seminary moving from Ottawa to Edmonton

“In Sacred Scripture, we find various examples of journeys undertaken by the people of God in response to the call of the Lord,” note the Ukrainian Catholic Bishops of Canada in a Pastoral announcement of the move of the Ukrainian Catholic Seminary from Ottawa to Edmonton. “So too, Holy Spirit Seminary will now undertake a new direction in its pilgrim journey as a sacred institution….”

The seminary has been in its current Ottawa location since its establishment in 1980.  Recently the Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytsky Institute of Eastern Christian Studies, provider of academic formation for Ukrainian Catholic seminarians became affiliated with St. Michael’s College at the University of Toronto and relocated there. This change along with a number of other factors encouraged the bishops to take the decision to move the seminary to facilities previously occupied by the Basilian House of Studies in Edmonton.
