The Meaning, Value, and Goal of National Family and Life Week
National Family and Life Week, observed annually across Canada from May 10-17, 2026, calls the faithful to celebrate the family as the “fundamental cell of society” and “image of the Triune God” (Pope Francis). Organized by the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB), this week reminds us that Christ accompanies every family – in joy, struggle, generational bonds, vulnerability, enduring love, and mission.
Its value lies in strengthening the domestic church amid modern challenges: division, illness, loneliness, and secular pressures. The 2026 theme, “I am with you always” (Mt 28:20, NRSV), offers hope that Jesus walks with parents, children, grandparents, couples, and the vulnerable.
The goal? Unite parishes in prayer and action, fostering unity, service, and evangelization. Through daily reflections, we pray for specific family members and discern concrete Christian support – transforming faith into loving deeds.

Bishop David Motiuk’s Pastoral Letter to Families
Eparchial Bishop David Motiuk shares this heartfelt message:
Dear Families:
2026 National Family and Life Week – May 10-17
I am delighted to bring greetings to parents, grandparents, and your families as we celebrate this year’s National Family and Life Week focussing on the theme “I am with you always” (Matthew 28:20).
As we celebrate families this year, I am reminded of my joy-filled participation in the Eighth World Meeting of Families in Philadelphia… [full letter as previously quoted, ending with] I pray that God who is Love truly blesses you and your family!
Sincerely in Christ, + Most Rev. David Motiuk, Eparchial Bishop.
