REDWATER – St. JOSEPH and NATIVITY of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish – Парафія св. Йосифа і Різдва Преч. Діви Марії

Location: Lot 18, bl. 21, pl. 57. 2 acres of land. 4 km. from the train station. Twelve members (some names: V. Malovanyi, T.Malovanyi, V. Syvolos, P. Pasemko, A. Radzgo, V. Kraichyi, D. Radzgo, P. Sadovyi, I. Prokopiv, S. Malovanyi, V. Kraichuk) established the Parish in 1918 and built the church in 1922. Building costs were approximately $1,500.00. Size: 35’ x 20’. National Hall was built in 1935. Theodor Malowany donated the land for the church and Joseph Kraichyi donated 2 acres for the cemetery. Bishop V. Ladyka visited the Parish in 1933. After 1945 the parishioners together with the faithful of Cookville were in favour of building a new church in the town of Redwater and later called the church in honor of Saints Borys and Hlib. First parish priests were the Basilian fathers. In the early days the services were provided by Fr. Matthew Hura, Fr. Basil Ladyka, Fr. Naucratius Kryzanowsky, Fr. Joseph Tymochko, Fr. Dionisius Dzygolyk, Fr. Isidore Kohut.
