Journey of Healing and Reconciliation

Pope Francis’ visit to Canada continues the journey of healing and reconciliation for those Indigenous families who suffered from the Church’s role in residential schools. Walking Together is the theme of the Holy Father’s pilgrimage which will bring him to visit the ancestral lands where their families live.

As we anticipate the arrival of Pope Francis to Canada, the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB) has invited all eparchies and dioceses across Canada to help offset the expense of this historic visit by making a financial donation. In response, the Eparchy of Edmonton is designating a special collection for the next two Sundays (July 24 and July 31, 2022) for this purpose.

Walking Together: The Papal Visit

A website and brochure were specifically created to openly discuss the papal visit to Canada. Learn more about the schedule, recent news, papal visit newsletter, volunteering and more.

This historic pilgrimage is paid for by the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB), local eparchies and dioceses from across Canada, individuals, corporations and various levels of government. Donations will cover costs for lodging, event security, event production and logistics. Funds will also be used to help with mobility aids for short transport for Elders and Survivors; and mental health and welfare support for Indigenous survivors.

The Bond of Our Peoples

“Dear faithful, but now, above all, it is a time to listen attentively to our Indigenous brothers and sisters, no matter how painful the reality of Residential Schools. They must speak. We must listen. Only then will truth be told, and heard, with the hope of reconciliation and a strengthening of the bond of our two peoples.” ~Bishop David
