Caring for the Sick and the Dying

A New Pastoral Initiative for the Jubilee Year 2025

As we approach the Jubilee Year 2025, Pope Francis reminds us that we are all “Pilgrims of Hope.” In response to this call, Bishop David Motiuk has issued a new pastoral letter, Always Our Parishioners: Renewing Our Hope in Christ—Caring for the Sick and the Dying. This initiative invites every parish in the Eparchy of Edmonton to renew its commitment to caring for the sick, isolated, or nearing the end of life.

How Parishes Can Get Involved

Each parish is encouraged to take action by:

  • Organizing regular visits to the sick and elderly, whether in their homes, hospitals, or care centres.

  • Training volunteers to bring Holy Communion, share parish news, and provide prayerful support.

  • Strengthening the bonds of community through acts of kindness and pastoral care.

This initiative is an opportunity to build a stronger, more compassionate Church, one where every person—no matter their circumstances—feels seen, supported, and loved.

To guide this initiative, Bishop David Motiuk has written Always Our Parishioners: Renewing Our Hope in Christ,
