GILWOOD – CHRIST—LOVER OF MANKIND Parish – Парафія Христа Чоловіколюбця
Location : 12 km . SW of High Prairie. The incorporation of the property was done personally in 1939 by Fr. Matthew Sianchuk, OSBM. The community started with approximately 20 families, who did not have a church attachment and were spiritually indifferent. However, a few families showed their interest from the beginnings: M. Belian, I. Makara, M. Okhran and J. Tsyfranets. The priest had to be the initiator of all activities, otherwise it was impossible even to start the church building in 1940. Later, two other Basilian Fathers were serving the community: Fr. Ireneus Procenty and Fr. Ambrose Wynnyk. Services were held twice a year. The church was not active for many years and burned down in the spring of 1993.
