Rev. Paul Lysak reposed in the Lord on August 26, 2022, at the Edmonton General Hospital, Edmonton, in his 96th year of early life and 69th year of priesthood.
Father Paul was born on May 3, 1926 in Krakow, Alberta. After philosophical and theological studies at the Gregorian University in Rome, he was ordained to the priesthood by Bishop Ivan Buchko on July 5, 1953.
Reverend Paul is survived by his brother, Metro; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents, two brothers and three sisters.
He served as pastor of numerous parishes, including Chipman, Hilliard, Calmar, Calmar Farms, Leduc, Thorsby, Vancouver, Nelson, Creston, Cranbrook, Castlegar, Grand Forks, Myrnam, Beauvallon, Morecambe, Lloydminster, Lethbridge, Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Calgary, Saint Nicholas, Edmonton, and Protection of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Edmonton. He retired in 2005.
A Priestly Parastas will be held Thursday, September 1, 2022, at 7 p.m. at St. Josaphat Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral, 10825 – 97 Street. A Priestly Funeral Divine Liturgy will be held Friday, September 2, 2022, at 10 a.m. at St. Josaphat Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral. Most Reverend Bishop David Motiuk and other clergy officiating with interment in St. Michael’s Cemetery.
