Слава Ісусу Христу / Glory to Jesus Christ to our Ukrainian Catholic Community in Edmonton!
There are over 200 Ukrainian nationals arriving in Edmonton weekly, with over 6000 already here. The Ukrainian Canadian Social Services is asking for our help as more Ukrainians are coming, in three ways:
- There is a high need for beds, bed frames, mattresses, and kitchen tables. If you have any of these items to donate or know someone who can, please visit the Ukrainian Furniture Warehouse, 15330 – 114 Ave. Their hours are Saturday and Sunday from 12:00 pm-4:00 pm and Tuesday and Thursday from 6:00 pm-8:00 pm.
2. The Edmonton Free Store for Ukrainians is in urgent need of diapers (all sizes), toothpaste (normal size, tubes), basic gentle shampoo, deodorant, and wipes. The store is located at 10137 104 Street and you can contact Janice at 780-965-8647 for delivery dates and hours.
3. Many Ukrainian newcomers/evacuees are coming to the Edmonton Food Bank, which is reporting higher uses of their services, and are in need of food donations. Fresh vegetables and fruit, vegetable oil, and bread baking supplies are often not available at the food bank and are not affordable for newcomer Ukrainians for the first 3 months of living in Edmonton. Such donations would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you to the community that has been continuously aiding Ukrainian newcomers. Please note that there is an overabundance of clothing donations and every place is full.
We pray for the Ukrainian nationals and for them to find peace and freedom. We hope that the war will end soon. Say a prayer for Ukraine, or watch Bishop David’s homily here. Make a donation to support Ukraine here.
