10. Lead my soul forth from prison* that I may give thanks to Your name.

By Your Cross, O Christ our Saviour,* the power of Death has been vanquished* and the deceit of the devil has been destroyed.* Therefore, mankind, saved by faith,* offers You hymns of praise forever.

9. The just shall gather around me* when You have been good to me.

O Lord, all creation has been enlightened by Your resurrection,* and Paradise has been reopened;* therefore, all creation extols You* and offers You hymns of praise forever.

8. Out of the depths I cry to You, O Lord;* O Lord, hear my voice!

I glorify the powers of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit;* and I praise the dominion of the undivided Divinity,* the consubstantial Trinity,* who reigns forever and ever.

7. Let Your ears be attentive* to the voice of my prayer.

The memory of Your martyr Eustratios, O Lord, shines like the sun;* by the brilliance of his invincible words,* he eclipsed the multitude of false gods.* As a house without foundations is brought down,* so did he overcome them by his faith* and was joined by four other martyrs as his companions.* Through their prayers, O Lover of mankind, grant us the remission of our sins.

6. If You mark iniquities, Lord, who can stand?* But with You forgiveness is that You may be revered.

By their words, the sufferings of their lives and their privations,* the holy martyrs showed You their unshakeable dedication even to the end:* Orestes and Mardarius joined the wise Eustratios, Auxentius and Eugenius* in their glorious struggle.* Through their prayers, O Lord, save our souls.

5. I have waited for You as You have commanded; my soul patiently relies on Your promise,* for it has trusted in the Lord.

In the fury of the brutal tyrant, the illustrious Auxentius was beheaded;* Mardarius was crowned as he was hanged;* Eugenius attained the fullness of eternal life as they cut off his hands and tongue;* Orestes fell asleep in the Lord as he was laid on a bed of burning coals;* Eustratios was led like a lamb to the fire for Christ.

4. From the morning watch until night* let Israel trust in the Lord.

Today we commemorate the Forefathers of Christ.* Sing with fervour a hymn of praise to Christ the Saviour* who exalted them among the nations.* He is the Lord who does wondrous deeds* because He is powerful and almighty.* From them He brought forth a royal sceptre,* the Immaculate Maiden of God and Virgin Mary.* From her, Christ our God came forth* to give life and eternal salvation for all.

3. For with the Lord there is mercy, and with Him there is plentiful redemption;* and He shall redeem Israel from all its iniquities.

O Lord and Master,* You rescued the three holy youths from the fire.* You saved Daniel from the mouths of the lions;* You blessed Abraham, Isaac Your servant, and Jacob his son.* You willed to be like one of us by choosing to be born from them* in order that You might save our Forefathers who had fallen.* By Your Cross and Resurrection You tore apart the bonds of death.* You raise up all those who for ages had been among the dead* and who bow to You, O Christ, the eternal King.

2. Praise the Lord, all the nations;* proclaim His glory, all you people.

The three holy youths were refreshed by the Holy Spirit* when they walked in the fire as though in a cool place.* In them the Trinity and the Incarnation of Christ* were prefigured in a mystical manner.* By their wisdom and faith* they overcame the power of fire.* As for the just Daniel, he stopped the mouths of lions.* Through their intercession, we beseech You:* O Saviour and Lover of Mankind,* protect us from eternal fire* and make us worthy of Your heavenly Kingdom.

1. Strong is the love of the Lord for us;* eternally will His truth endure.

When the three holy youths stood in the flaming furnace* as if covered with dew,* they mystically prefigured Your coming from the Virgin,* giving light to us without being consumed.* And Daniel, the just and wondrous prophet,* clearly saw in a vision Your second divine coming.* He said: “I saw thrones set up and the Judge seated* and the river of fire flowing in His presence.”* Through their intercession* deliver us from this fire, O Lord.

Glory…

O believers, let us give praise today* to all the fathers who lived before the Law:* Abraham who was beloved by God,* Isaac who was born according to the promise,* Jacob and the Twelve Patriarchs,* the very meek David and the favoured prophet Daniel.* Let us also glorify with them the three youths* who changed the fiery furnace into a place of refreshing dew.* Let us beg forgiveness of our sins from Christ our God* who is glorified in His Saints.

Now…
O Lady most honourable,* how can we but be rapt in wonder* at your giving birth to the Incarnate God* who, without a mother, was born of a father before all ages?* You gave Him birth in the flesh without a father,* without a man’s instrumentality.* He is God and man whose two natures are intact,* neither one losing any of its properties.* Therefore, O Virgin Mother,* intercede with Him to save the souls* of those who believe and profess in true faith* that you are the Mother of God.

In Tone 3

O Christ, Who darkened the sun by Your passion* and enlightened all creation by Your resurrection,* accept our evening prayer; for You love mankind.

The Lord reigns, He is clothed in majesty. Robed is the Lord, and girt about with strength.

O Lord, Your life-giving resurrection has enlightened the entire universe* and has revived Your creation which lay in corruption.* Therefore, we, who have been released from the curse of Adam, cry out to You:* Almighty Lord, glory to You!

For He has made the world firm, which shall not be moved.

O God, although in Your divine nature You are unchangeable,* yet in Your human nature You underwent change by suffering in the flesh.* All creation was prostrate with fear* when it saw You hanging on the Cross,* and it groaned in sorrow as it sang the praises of Your long-suffering.* But You descended into Hades and arose on the third day,* granting life and great mercy to the world.

Holiness befits Your house, O Lord, for length of days.

You suffered death, O Christ, to deliver mankind from death.* And when You arose from the dead on the third day,* You enlightened the world* and resurrected all who acknowledge You as God.

Come, O lovers of the feast,* let us sing a hymn of praise to the assembly of the Forefathers:* Adam, the father of mankind,* Enoch, Noah, Melchizedek, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.* Let us also honour those who came after the Law:* Moses, Aaron, Joshua, Samuel, and David;* together with Isaiah, Jeremiah, and Ezekiel,* Daniel, and the twelve minor prophets;* likewise Elijah, Elisha, and all the others;* also Zechariah and the Baptist,* and all those who preached Christ, the Life and Resurrection of our race.

Epistle: Colossians 3:4-11 (NRSV)
Bothers and Sisters, when Christ who is your life is revealed, then you also will be revealed with him in glory. Put to death, therefore, whatever in you is earthly: fornication, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed (which is idolatry). On account of these the wrath of God is coming on those who are disobedient. These are the ways you also once followed, when you were living that life. But now you must get rid of all such things—anger, wrath, malice, slander, and abusive language from your mouth. Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have stripped off the old self with its practices and have clothed yourselves with the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge according to the image of its creator. In that renewal there is no longer Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave and free; but Christ is all and in all!

Ephesians 6:10-17 (NRSV)
Brothers and Sisters, finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his power. Put on the whole armor of God, so that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For our struggle is not against enemies of blood and flesh, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers of this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, so that you may be able to withstand on that evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm. The first said to him, ‘I have bought a piece of land, and I must go out and see it; please accept my regrets.’ Another said, ‘I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I am going to try them out; please accept my regrets.’ Another said, ‘I have just been married, and therefore I cannot come.’ So the slave returned and reported this to his master. The Lord said to his disciples: Beware of people, for they will lay their hands on you and persecute you, delivering you up to the synagogues and prisons, and you will be brought before kings and governors because of my name. This will give you an opportunity to testify. So make up your minds not to prepare your defense in advance; for I will give you words and a wisdom that none of your opponents will be able to withstand or contradict. You will be betrayed even by parents and brothers, by relatives and friends; and they will put some of you to death. You will be hated by all because of my name. But not a hair of your head will perish. By your endurance you will gain your souls.

Красуються славою божественної співучасти:* Адам радіє нині, як основа й сила мудрих Праотців;* співликує Авель і веселиться Енох;* радіє Сит із Ноєм, співає з патріярхами славний Авраам,* а Мелхіседек бачить сьогодні чудесне народження.* Тому і ми, звершуючи пам’ять Христових Праотців,* молимось за спасіння душ наших.

Чтець: З книги пророка Ісаї читання

Будьмо уважні.

Чтець: Так говорить Господь: Нехай зберуться всі народи разом, нехай зійдуться усі люди! Хто з них прорік це, проголосив нам перші пророцтва? Нехай поставлять свідків від себе й докажуть, щоб, вислухавши їх, можна було сказати: Це правда! Ви мої свідки, – слово Господнє, – і мій слуга, якого я вибрав, щоб ви знали й вірили мені та зрозуміли, що це я: не було бога, який міг би бути створений передо мною, і не може бути такого, що був би створений по мені. Я, я – Господь: нема спасителя, крім мене. Я оповів, спас, оголосив, а не чужий бог між вами. Ви мої свідки, – слово Господнє; я – Бог. Я – Бог від віку: нема нікого, хто увільнив би з руки моєї. Будьмо уважні.

Чтець: Душі праведних у руці Божій, і мука не спіткає їх. Очам безумних видалось, що вони вмерли, і їхнє переставлення вважано за нещастя, а відхід їх від нас – за згубу, вони однак – у мирі. Бо хоч, в очах людських, їх спіткала кара, надія їх повна безсмертям; вони, потерпівши трохи, великих добродійств зазнають, бо Бог їх досвідчив і знайшов їх достойними себе. Він випробував їх, як золото в горнилі, і прийняв їх, як жертву всепалення. В час їхніх відвідин вони засяють і, немов іскри, по стерні розбіжаться. Правитимуть народами й володітимуть племенами, а Господь царюватиме над ними повік. Ті, що звірились на нього, зрозуміють правду, і вірні в любові перебуватимуть при ньому, бо ласка й милосердя – для вибранців його. (Муд. 3, 1-9)

Будьмо уважні.

Чтець: Праведні повіки будуть жити, і в Господі їхня нагорода; піклується про них Всевишній. Тому і приймуть вони царство слави і вінець краси з Господньої руки, бо він правицею своєю захистить їх, раменом їх охоронить. Візьме за зброю свою ревність і озброїть створіння ворогам на відплату. Надягне справедливість, немов панцир, і накладе, як шолом, суд нелицемірний. Візьме за щит непереможну святість, нагострить, немов меч, гнів суворий; увесь світ піде з ним у бій проти безумних. Влучні стріли-блискавиці вирушать, і з хмар, немов з добре нап’ятого лука, полетять до цілі; з метавки гніву жбурне силу граду, вода у морі проти них залютує, і ріки затоплять їх безпощадно. Подмух Всесили проти них повстане, і, немов та буря, їх порозвіває. Так то беззаконня спустошить усю землю, а лиходійство повалить престоли сильних. Тож слухайте, царі, і розумійте! Господи, твоє животворне воскресіння просвітило всю вселенну* і піднесло твоє зотліле творіння.* Тому, визволившись від Адамового прокляття, кличемо:* Всесильний Господи, – слава тобі!

Стих: Бо він утвердив вселенну,* і вона не захитається.

Бувши незмінним Богом,* страждаючи тілом, ти змінився.* Але твоє створіння не могло дивитися на тебе розп’ятого,* з острахом схилилось і, стогнучи, оспівувало твоє довготерпіння.* А ти, зійшовши в ад, по трьох днях воскрес,* даруючи світові життя і велику милість.

Кондак (глас 6): Рукописаному образові не поклонившися,* але неописанним єством захистившися, триблаженні,* в подвизі вогню ви прославилися* і, посеред нестерпного полум’я стоячи, Бога ви призвали:* Поспішись, о, Щедрий,* і скоро прийди як милостивий нам на поміч,* бо ти можеш, якщо воля твоя.

Прокімен (глас 4):
Благословен єси, Господи, Боже отців наших,* і хвальне, і прославлене ім’я твоє на віки (Дан 3,26).
Стих: Бо праведний єси в усьому, що сотворив ти нам (Дан 3,27).

Святим, що на землі Його, проявив Господь усі бажання Свої в них (Пс. 15,3).

Апостол: (Кл 3,4-11):
Браття і Сестри, коли ж Христос, ваше життя, з’явиться, тоді й ви з ним з’явитесь у славі. Умертвлюйте, отже, ваші земні члени: розпусту, нечистоту, пристрасті, лиху пожадливість, зажерливість – що є ідолопоклонство. За все це падає гнів Божий на неслухняних. Ви самі нещодавно поводилися так само, коли жили в тому. Тепер же відкиньте й ви все те геть від себе: гнів, лютість, злобу, наклеп, сороміцькі слова з ваших уст! Не говоріть неправди одне одному, бо ви з себе скинули стару людину з її ділами й одягнулися в нову, що відновлюється до досконалого спізнання, відповідно до образу свого Творця. Тим то немає грека, ні юдея, ні обрізання, ні необрізання, ні варвара, ні скита, ні невольника, ні вільного, а все й у всьому – Христос.

(Еф. 6, 10-17.):
Браття і Сестри, кріпіться в Господі та в могутності його сили. Одягніться в повну зброю Божу, щоб могли дати відсіч хитрощам диявола. Нам бо треба боротися не проти тіла й крови, а проти начал, проти властей, проти правителів цього світу темряви, проти духів злоби в небесних просторах. Тому візьміть зброю Божу, щоб за лихої години ви могли протистати і, перемігши все, міцно стояти. Стійте, отже, підперезавши правдою бедра ваші, вдягнувшись у броню справедливости і взувши ноги в готовість, щоб проповідувати євангеліє миру. Над усе візьміть щит віри, яким зможете згасити всі вогненні стріли лукавого. Візьміть також шолом спасіння і меч духовний, тобто слово Боже.

Алилуя (глас 3):
Стих: На Тебе, Господи, уповав, щоб не осоромитись навіки (Пс 30,2).
Стих: Будь мені Богом захисником і домом пристановища, щоб спасти мене (Пс 30,3).
Стих: Візвали праведні, і Господь вислухав їх, і від усіх скорбот їх ізбавив їх (Пс. 33,18).

Євангеліє: (Лк 14,16-24):
Сказав Господь притчу оцю: “Один чоловік справив вечерю велику й запросив багатьох. Під час вечері послав він слугу свого сказати запрошеним: Ідіть, усе готове. Тоді всі вони однаково почали відмовлятися. Перший йому сказав: Поле купив я, мушу піти на нього подивитись; вибач мені, прошу тебе. Другий сказав: П’ять пар волів купив я і йду їх спробувати; прошу тебе, вибач мені. А інший мовив: Я одружився і тому не можу прийти. Повернувся слуга й розповів це панові своєму. Розгнівався тоді господар та й каже до слуги свого: Іди щоскоріш на майдани й вулиці міста й приведи сюди вбогих, калік, сліпих, кульгавих. Пане, – озвавсь слуга, – сталось, як ти велів, і місця є ще. Сказав пан до слуги: Піди на шляхи та огорожі й наполягай увійти, щоб дім мій наповнився. Кажу бо вам: Ніхто з отих запрошених не покуштує моєї вечері.”

(Лк 21, 12-19.)
Сказав Господь своїм учням: Стережіться людей, що на вас накладуть руки й переслідувати будуть, і волочитимуть по синагогах та по тюрмах, водитимуть перед царів і правителів з-за імени мого. І це дасть вам нагоду свідчити про мене. Візьміть собі до серця, що вам не треба готуватися наперед, що маєте відповідати, я бо дам вам слово й мудрість, якій ніхто з ваших противників не зможе протиставитись і перечити. Вас видадуть батьки, брати, рідні й друзі, і декому з вас смерть заподіють. Вас будуть ненавидіти всі за моє ім’я. Але й волос з голови у вас не пропаде. Вашою терпеливістю спасете душі ваші.

Причасний:
Хваліте Господа з небес, хваліте Його на висотах (Пс 148,1). * Радуйтеся, праведні, у Господі, правим належить похвала (Пс 32,1).* Алилуя (х3).
