One Eastern tradition parishioner and his family who found a welcome in a Ukrainian Catholic church now have their own. St. Alphonsa Syro-Malabar Forane Church was consecrated on July 29, 2017, by Cardinal George Alencherry, supreme head of the Syro-Malabar Catholic Church.

Parishioner Varkey Kalapurayil, seen in the video of the consecration, and his family participated on a number of occasions in Divine Liturgy and other services at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church in Edmonton while preparing their own. Now they can proudly worship in their own building. Bishop David Motiuk of Edmonton’s Ukrainian Catholic Eparchy was “delighted” to participate in this very special event celebrated by a fellow Eastern Catholic community.
