In view of the adoption of the Law Concerning End-of-Life Care by the National Assembly of Québec (5 June 2014) and considering the on-going efforts of pro-euthanasia forces throughout Canada, citizens who respect life from conception until natural death are called to address the needs of the vulnerable more effectively and to engage with greater vigor in this life or death public debate.

To that end, with the support of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB), the Catholic Organization for Life and Family (COLF) is launching a National Campaign in Favour of Palliative and Home Care, and Against Euthanasia and Assisted Suicide. COLF invites all people of good will to answer Christ’s plea: “Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brethren, you did it to me’ (Matt. 25:40).

This campaign of education and action, which is structured around the theme “Life-Giving Love” (www.lifegivinglove.com), is also a response to Pope Francis’ urgent call: “In imitation of our Master, we Christians are called to confront the poverty of our brothers and sisters, to touch it, to make it our own and to take practical steps to alleviate it”.[i] Neglect and abandonment of the elderly, insists the Holy Father, “are a real and true hidden euthanasia.”[ii]
