About St. Nicholas Parish – Carvel

St. Nicholas Parish in Carvel was established through the determination and sacrifice of local Ukrainian Catholic families who built their church during the difficult years of the early 1930s. The land for the church was purchased in 1927, and additional land was later donated by Frank Askin. Parishioners volunteered their labour to help construct the church, transport building materials, and furnish the interior, including the hand-carved altar made by Roman Veres.

Despite the hardships of the Depression, the parish continued to grow as a faithful community of prayer and service. A National Home dedicated to Fr. Markian Shashkevych was built in 1935, and a clergy residence was later added. The parish was served by the Basilian Fathers until 1948 and gave the Church three vocations to the priesthood, reflecting the strong spiritual life of the community.
