St. Michael the Archangel Parish – Limestone

St. Michael Parish in Limestone Lake was established by Ukrainian settlers who arrived in the area in 1898 from Strilkivtsi in the Borshchiv district of Ukraine. The parish was formally founded in 1904, and over the years, the faithful built their first church, then a larger second church in 1939, along with a church residence and a National Hall that supported both spiritual and cultural life. Known also as Wostok (Iwasiuky), the parish became an important centre of worship and community for families in the surrounding area.

The parish was shaped not only by prayer and service, but also by strong cultural leadership. Parishioners organized concerts, youth activities, and drama presentations, while later leaders continued to support both church and community events. St. Michael Parish is remembered for the dedication of its founders, the creativity of its people, and its role in preserving Ukrainian faith and culture.
