St. John the Baptist Parish – Thorsby

St. John the Baptist Parish in Thorsby is a Ukrainian Catholic community with roots reaching back to a 1907 church dedicated to St. Nicholas and later to the Nativity of St. John the Baptist. The parish story includes multiple church sites, a move into town in 1931, and the current church built between 1961 and 1969.

The parish has two cemeteries and a monument placed in 1980 to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Province of Alberta. Its history also records monthly service by Basilian Fathers and later clergy connected with the Camrose district.
