About St. John the Baptist Parish – Lamont
St. John the Baptist Parish in Lamont began as a gathering place for Ukrainian Catholic faithful who had arrived in the town in 1912 and first attended nearby parishes in Chipman, Star, and Skaro. The community gradually organized its own parish life through home Liturgies, parish meetings, and the purchase of land behind the school for a future church and gathering place. Its early growth reflected the dedication of local families who wanted to build a lasting spiritual home for the Ukrainian Catholic faithful in Lamont.
The parish was formally established in the early 1940s, and the faithful celebrated their first parish feast, welcomed many people from surrounding areas, and began developing a strong community identity. Over time, the parish became a centre of worship and fellowship, supported by dedicated clergy and parishioners who helped shape its life and mission.
