About St. John the Baptist Parish – Iron River

St. John the Baptist Parish in Iron River is a Ukrainian Catholic parish established in 1932, beginning with Divine Liturgies in the home of Roman Slawuta. Its church was completed and blessed by Fr. Josaphat Tymochko on August 2, 1936.

The parish history highlights generous support during the Depression years, with land, lumber, shingles, and parish leadership contributed by local families. It also notes a strong UCWLC, altar boys, and monthly services attended by about 60 people in 1958.
