St. George Parish – Manly

St. George Parish in Manly was organized in 1909 as Ukrainian settlers continued to arrive in the area in the early 1900s. The first church was built in 1910 on land donated by Ilko Krashevsky, and the parish soon became a spiritual home for local families through baptisms, parish gatherings, and the dedicated service of cantors and lay leaders. A parish hall was built in 1920, and over the years, the church was visited by several bishops, reflecting its importance in the life of the Ukrainian Catholic community.

Though the parish once had many families and an active worship life, most parishioners later moved to the cities for work, and only a few families remain today. Still, St. George Parish remains an important part of the Ukrainian Catholic story in rural Manitoba, remembered for the faith and perseverance of its founders and for the community life it supported for generations.
