About Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church – Eldorena

Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church in Eldorena dates to 1912 and sits along Victoria Trail in northern Alberta, near what was once a busy ferry crossing. It represents the second stage of prairie Byzantine church design, with the characteristic open dome form seen in many rural Ukrainian Catholic churches across the Prairies.

Its construction is especially significant because it is believed to include some of the earliest work of Reverend Philip Ruh after his arrival in Canada. The church’s interior furnishings, including the tabernacle, side altar icons, and altar room icons, are attributed to Peter Lipinski, whose work also appears in other Ukrainian churches in the region.
