Holy Trinity Parish – Plain Lake

Holy Trinity Parish in Plain Lake began with Ukrainian settlers arriving in 1900 and soon became a centre of faith for the local community. The first Basilian missionary to visit was Fr. Platonid Filas, who blessed the land in 1904, and Divine Liturgies were first celebrated in the homes of John Grycan and later John Predyk, while the parish raised money for its first church. That first church was completed in 1910 under Fr. Naucratius Kryzanowsky, with Bill Hlushak as the main carpenter and a total cost of $300.

As the parish grew, a new church was built in 1926–1927 for $10,000 and blessed in 1932 by Bishop Basil Ladyka. The church interior was painted in 1937 by Mr. Peter Lipinski, the parish hall was built in 1938, and later improvements included a diesel furnace, new siding, and roof work. The parish cemetery holds about 225 parishioners, and the community continues to remember its roots through annual prayers for the departed and the legacy of the Basilian Fathers, Sisters Servants of Mary Immaculate, and many dedicated lay leaders.
