About Descent of the Holy Spirit Parish – Reno

Holy Spirit Ukrainian Catholic Parish in Reno, near Peace River, was established in 1946 and remains a small but meaningful faith community rooted in the dedication of local families. The church’s history is closely tied to the efforts of parishioners, including Irene Bekewich’s father, Kalyn, who played an important role in its construction. Today, the parish continues to gather for seasonal liturgies, especially in the summer, and for special services such as Easter and memorial prayers.

The parish church also reflects the practical and communal spirit of its beginnings, with interior pews brought from another church and a strong tradition of family and volunteer involvement. Its history is carefully preserved through parish records and a scrapbook prepared for the 25th anniversary of the church. Holy Spirit Parish is also recognized for its heritage value, with efforts made to preserve it as an important historic and spiritual landmark for the wider community.
