Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish – Glendon
PastorRev. Andrij NykyforukAbout Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish – Glendon
Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish in Glendon began with services held in the home of Nicholas Hupalo and grew into a full parish community by the 1940s and 1950s. In 1939, Fr. Andrew Truch called a meeting of the faithful, and the community decided to buy land in Glendon for the church and a separate acre for the cemetery. The church, built in 1940 in the shape of a cross with an iconostasis, was followed by a priest’s residence in 1945 and a parish hall in 1952.
The parish was supported by active lay leaders, cantors, and church organizations such as BUCC, UCWLC, UCYC, and altar boys. It also preserved traditional liturgical life through vespers and matins and produced one priestly vocation, Fr. William Hupalo. Basilian fathers who served the parish over the years included Fr. George Zydan, Fr. Ireneus Procenty, Fr. Dionisius Dzygolyk, Fr. Andrew Truch, Fr. Epiphany Paschak, and Fr. Marian Horishny.
