Ukrainian Catholic Churches Photography Exhibit – Grand Opening

Discover an important part of Alberta’s Ukrainian Catholic heritage through a special photography exhibit featuring historic pioneer Ukrainian Catholic churches built throughout the province in the 20th century.

The Basilian Fathers Museum in Mundare invites everyone to the Grand Opening on Sunday, September 20, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. The afternoon will include a reception and presentation celebrating the history, architecture, faith, and legacy preserved through these remarkable churches.

The exhibit features church photography by Russell Sawchuk, whose work documents Alberta’s historic pioneer churches and helps preserve their stories for future generations. The photographs featured in the exhibit come from his PioneerChurches.ca project.

Through these photographs, visitors will have an opportunity to appreciate the churches that became important spiritual and community centres for generations of Ukrainian Catholics in Alberta.
