During the month of September, the Eparchy of Edmonton conducts its Annual Seminary Collection. Those aspiring to the priestly ministry study at Holy Spirit Seminary, Ottawa, where they receive their human, spiritual, intellectual and pastoral formation. The faithful can acknowledge the role they play in supporting the formation of new priests by offering their financial support, which helps to defray such expenses as formation programs, tuition and books. The suggested donation amount is $20.00 per family. This year, the Eparchy of Edmonton was blessed with the priestly ordinations of Rev. Danylo Kuc and Rev. Roman Planchak. Beginning their seminary formation this Fall at Holy Spirit Seminary are Cyril Kennedy and Tobias Underwood.

2010 Annual Clergy Retreat: September 27-30, Providence Renewal Centre, Edmonton; Rev. Gabriel Haber, osbm, Retreat Master. The retreat begins on Monday at 5:00 pm with supper and concludes Thursday at 9:00 pm. Note that a Clergy Conference follows at Providence Renewal Centre on Friday beginning at 9:00 am.

The 2011 World Day of Peace will be celebrated September 21. This year’s theme, chosen by Pope Benedict XVI, is “Religious freedom, the path to peace.”

Pope Benedict XVI affirmed the election of Hieromonk Benedict(Valery Aleksiychuk) by the Synod of Bishops of the Ukrainian Catholic Church as Auxiliary Bishop of the Archeparchy of Lviv, with the titular see of Germaniciana. The newly appointed bishop was born in 1968 in the Rivne region. He finished medical school and worked in an ambulance team. In 1990 he entered the seminary in Drohobych (Western Ukraine). He was ordained in1992. In 1993 he entered the Studite monastery of the Holy Dormition in Univ. Fr. Benedict served as a priest in Belarus, later in Canada, and in 1999 was elected as hegumen at Univ Monastery (re-elected twice). Fr. Benedict has a doctorate in theology from the Lublin Catholic University and is engaged in different ministries in the Ukrainian Catholic Church.
The Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops is encouraging parishes to respond to the emergency situation in Pakistan. Development and Peace (www.devp.org) is collaborating with Caritas Internationalis and Caritas Pakistan in this emergency relief effort. See attached letter from CCCB President Most Rev. Pierre Morissette(also available at http://www.cccb.ca/site/eng/ ). Any donation made by an individual to a recognized organization (between August 2nd and September 12th) will be matched by the Canadian government.
Bishop David, upon the recommendation of Very Rev. Eugene Richlark, osbm, Provincial Superior, appointed:
- Rev. Serafym Grygoruk, osbm , as Pastor of Holy Trinity Parish, Vegreville;
- Rev. Ignatius Holowaychuk, osbm , as Pastor of Saints Peter and Paul Parish, Mundare; and
- Rev. Daniel Wach, osbm , as Assistant Pastor of Saints Peter and Paul Parish, Mundare.
Rev. Josaphat Tyrkalo, osbm, has been assigned to Protection of the Mother of God Parish, Vancouver.
Rev. Justin Ewaschyshyn, osbm, following his retirement, will reside at the Basilian Monastery, Mundare.
