The 2011 World Day of Peace will be celebrated September 21, This year’s theme, chosen by Pope Benedict XVI, is “Religious freedom, the path to peace” (see attached).

Pope Benedict XVI established a dicastery for New Evangelisation. The newly created Pontifical Council has the fundamental task of promoting renewed evangelisation in countries where the first announcement of the faith has already been heard, but where challenges, including secularization, requires that the perennial truth of the Gospel of Christ be re-presented (see attached).
Pope Benedict XVI published a new children’s book entitled “The Friends of Jesus,” in which he recounts the story of the twelve Apostles and St. Paul. The book, forty-eight pages long and illustrated by the Italian artist Franco Vignazia, has been published by the publishing house San Giuliano Milanese. It brings together a number of passages from the Pope’s catecheses in his Wednesday general audiences.
The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops issued a doctrinal statement on “The Distinction between Direct Abortion and Legitimate Medical Procedures” (attached). The statement is helpful in distinguishing between the two concepts.
The Alberta Catholic Bishops reissued a pastoral letter on “The Parent and the Catholic School”(attached). The letter offers for consideration five fundamental principles regarding the role of the Catholic parent in the faith life of the child.
Bishop David appointed Rev. Danylo Kuc as Assistant Pastor of Saint Josaphat’s Cathedral, effective September 1, 2010.
Bishop David, upon the recommendation of Very Rev. Eugene Richlark, osbm, Provincial Superior, appointed Rev. Petro Salkovski, osbm, as Assistant Pastor of Saint Basil Parish, Edmonton. Father Petro was born in Brasil in 1969 and was ordained to the priesthood in 2004. Originally from Brasil, he also worked in the United States of America.
