19-20 February 2013 Kniazhytsi/Kyiv, Ukraine: The Working Group for the Implementation of the Pastoral Strategy of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church met in the Patriarchal residence in Kniazhytsi, Ukraine.  The Working Group held an opening session with His Beatitude Sviatoslav, Patriarch of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church to discuss its on-going program,  “The Vibrant Parish: a Place to encounter the Living Christ.”

The Working Group meets several times a year, and holds regional meetings with eparchial coordinators from Ukraine and Kazakhstan, from Western and Central Europe with North & South  America and Australia. The session held in Kniazhytsi reviewed specific pastoral initiatives for 2013, which included its work on a Handbook for Pastoral Planning, a “Vibrant Parish” website and strategic pastoral goals for 2014-2015.

The members of the Working Group represent a broad sector of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church. Bishop Ken Nowakowski (Eparch of New Westminster – Canada) head of the working group, and Bishop Bohdan Dzyurakh (Secretary of the Synod of Ukrainian Greek Catholic Bishops – Ukraine) co-chair, along with members of the Group: Fr. Andrew T. Onuferko, (Canada), Fr. Bohdan Danylo (USA), Frs. Vitaly Tokar, & Mykailo Harvart (Ukraine) Sr. Luiza Ciupa, SSMI (Brazil/Ukraine), Sr. Bonifatija Djakiv, SSMI (Ukraine) Ms. Tetiana Stawnychy (USA/Ukraine) Mr. Roman Olyniyk (Ukraine). Members of the Working Group also met with the Seminarians and Rectorate of The Three Holy Hierarchs Seminary of the Archeparchy of Kyiv, where the seminarians were provided an overview of the “Vibrant Parish” program and of its implications for their pastoral formation.  Following the presentation, Working Group members participated in an evening Vespers service and were hosted at supper in the seminary community.

The next meeting of the Working Group is scheduled for May 2013, at which time a meeting will be held with eparchial coordinators from Ukraine and Kazakhstan.
